A PERFECT FIT

Imagine doing everything you can to grow your business, only to have your efforts stifled by roadblocks that are out of your control. This is the situation Jacqueline found herself in. It’s what made her decide to become a loan officer.

capacity issues

Jackie has always been a natural at sales. In her previous job, she could go to a sales meeting and come back with 10 to 15 new deals. But her lender didn’t have the capacity to keep up with her. “It would cripple my previous team,” said Jackie. “To the point where we would be stuck and applications would take a week or two to get disclosed and it just became a nightmare.”

So, Jackie decided to transition to the broker world where she could pick and choose the lenders she worked with based on the criteria she was looking for. “It took away that burden of being limited,” she said.

pivoting in a pandemic

As excited as Jackie was to become a loan officer, she could not have foreseen the impact of making the move at the beginning of a pandemic. As rates dropped, her phone lit up. “Everyone I had sought business from in the last 7 to 10 years called me in the same week,” Jackie said.

After weathering that initial storm, Jackie found her footing and quickly realized that the broker world offered everything she’d been looking for.

“Being a broker, we have a ton more options,” says Jackie. “There’s basically limitless ability. You can structure your business plan and go after whatever kind of market you want to corner. That’s so empowering.”

EDUCATING HER CLIENTS AND FRIENDS

Before she got into the mortgage industry, Jackie had worked as a schoolteacher. She began supplementing her income with bookkeeping and eventually decided to incorporate her love of teaching with her knack for numbers by becoming a loan officer.

“It was a perfect transition and I still get to use my old teaching skills,” says Jackie. “I want my clients to feel like I’ve educated them, I’ve set them up for success, and they know what’s coming when it comes to their loan.”

And now, thanks to the options and resources she has as a loan officer, Jackie can deliver the kind of experience she’s always wanted for her clients, most of whom are more than just clients.

“Most of my friends are clients and most of my clients become friends,” Jackie says. “That is so rewarding. Someone will introduce me and they’ll say ‘this is my good friend Jackie, she’s a great loan officer.’ I love that! That’s really cool.”
