CHARTING A NEW COURSE IN THE WHOLESALE MORTGAGE INDUSTRY
One of the best things about working in the wholesale mortgage industry is that it offers career opportunities for anyone with a strong work ethic, positive attitude and a genuine desire to help people.
Haley knew she had those qualities from her experience in a much different job. Little did she know, those same qualities would one day lead her to success as an independent mortgage loan officer.
FROM SEA TO LAND-ING A NEW JOB
Five years ago, Haley didn’t even know what a loan officer was. However, she did know all about putting in a hard day’s work. A West Coast native, Haley comes from a family of longshoremen.
“I was raised in a way that if there’s work to get done, you get up and go,” said Haley, who followed in the family footsteps and became a merchant marine. She spent three years working on a barge, delivering fuel to small villages from Oregon to the Arctic. Getting her hands dirty literally came with the territory.
“I have been covered in oil fuel,” said Haley, who developed other important skills in her time at sea that have helped her in the time since. “I gained a lot of experience learning how to be disciplined, working long hours and being willing to go the extra mile.”
When she decided to stop shipping out, Haley relocated to Maine to start the next chapter of her life – with an eye on starting a new career. “I really didn’t know what industry would be for me, but I did want that feeling of people knowing I care about them.”
As she pondered her options, the mortgage loan officer who helped Haley with her own home loan came to mind. She reached out to that loan officer and learned that the independent mortgage brokerage she worked for actually had an opening for an office manager position.
“I told them I’m very disciplined, I will always show up and more than anything, I try to have good morale,” Haley said. She got the job and immediately dove in.
A HUSTLE MENTALITY
In her early days working for the brokerage, Haley handled paperwork and verifications of employment. She also took every opportunity to sit with others in the office so she could learn the ins and outs of being a loan officer, something she carried over to after-work hours.
“I would come home and watch YouTube videos. What’s a USDA loan? What’s a VA loan? What’s the difference between conventional and FHA? I would learn about that so I was more educated,” said Haley.
After getting some experience under her belt, Haley became a licensed mortgage loan officer in November 2020. That’s when the real work began.
“I knew this was a job where you have to hustle and that brings out the best in me because I am naturally a go-getter,” said Haley. “So I knew this was a really good fit for me.”
WOWING HER CLIENTS, WINNING MORE LOANS
Despite being a relatively new loan officer in the wholesale mortgage industry, Haley has quickly built and grown her book of business. She attributes her success to always going the extra mile for her clients.
“It really does pay off because then over time, they’ll refer their friends. ‘I had this great experience with Haley. She answered all my calls, all my emails, and she was really there for me during the process.’ ”
It also helps that Haley has exclusive resources that are only available to independent mortgage brokers and loan officers in the wholesale mortgage industry.
“I work with the fastest partners in the industry so I’m going to get you an answer as soon as possible, and that’s what sets us apart as a mortgage broker. We’re fast, you can contact us any time and if we don’t know the answer, we’ll get you the answer you need,” said Haley.
She never envisioned this is where she would land, but it’s safe to say that Haley Brady’s ship has come in as an independent mortgage loan officer.
“The fact that I’m now able to help first-time homebuyers, as a girl who was on a tug and barge, is pretty amazing. I’m just so grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given. And I don’t think this is the end. This is just the beginning.”
