CREATING HER OWN SUCCESS IN THE BROKER CHANNEL

No matter how much success you’ve had in business, consistently creating a top-notch experience for your clients is paramount. For a mortgage loan officer like Stacey, providing that experience is how she became one of the top producers in the state of Arizona. It’s also the reason why she decided to come back to wholesale mortgage lending.

CLIENT EXPERIENCE IS EVERYTHING

Stacey started her mortgage career as an independent mortgage broker before a shakeup in her company’s ownership brought about a transition to a retail lending business model. After growing increasingly frustrated with process constraints and the inability to provide her clients with the best service, she knew she needed to make a change.

“I was tired of arguing with underwriters and fighting to try to get deals closed. It wasn't the client experience that I built my business on,” said Stacey.

“Purchasing a home is stressful. Finding the home is stressful and then packing up everything, getting everything ready to move into the new home. So I needed to make sure that I could give them the best service with the least amount of loan obstacles.”

HEARING THE BUZZ

Even though she spent the first 6-7 years of her mortgage career in wholesale lending, Stacey had been in retail lending for so long that she believed some of the common misconceptions being spread about independent mortgage brokers.

“One of the things that we always heard in retail about brokers was they’re more expensive. No control over underwriting. You don't control your fundings. Things don't close on time, all those kinds of things,” she said. “I had forgotten from the broker world before that actually wasn't true. So I just fell right into it.”

But as she encountered more roadblocks in retail, Stacey started doing her own research and that got her wheels moving.

“I started hearing the buzz about brokers again. It's kind of like, well, wait a minute. They're still here and they're bigger and better than ever. That's probably something that I need to be part of.”

YOU’RE YOUR OWN CEO

Once Stacey decided to make the move back to wholesale lending, her focus turned to making sure it was a seamless transition not just for her, but also her referral partners and clients.

“I said on day one, I just need to be able to pull credit, take an application, issue a prequalification letter. I'll figure out the rest. And it really went smoother than I thought it would,” said Stacey.

Not only did she figure it out, Stacey hit the ground running. She also embraced her newfound ability to shape her business the way she wanted to.

“From the retail world…you're just an employee of that company bringing in business and closing loans, in the broker world, you're running your own business, you're your own CEO, your own entrepreneur.”

Looking back, Stacey couldn’t be happier with her decision. She can now run her business the way she wants while providing the same exceptional level of service she is known for.
